The Best Dresses for your Office Holiday Party

{our favorite cocktail dresses for your firm’s holiday party}

It’s that time of year, where your work obligations include formal celebrations of the holidays.  Work parties require a bit of a balancing act, and deciding what to wear can become quite an undertaking.

You need to find that perfect dress- one that is festive yet professional, one that demonstrates you have style but you know how to balance it with sensibility, one that shows you know how to have a good time yet you take yourself seriously.

Now, plenty of work parties occur straight after the workday, so you will just wear what you wore to the office, perhaps with a little added flair (watch for a post on transitioning from day to night soon!).  For those parties that require cocktail attire (those that are on the weekend or where dressier attire is specifically indicated), check out a few of our favorite dresses below:

This Structured dress by Jonathan Simkhai is fabulous- the length and crew-style neckline make it appropriate for work, but the fabric’s sheen and the fuller skirt make it fashion-forward and perfect for a party.  Pair this dress with black or nude patent pointy-toe pumps or, if your office and the venue can tolerate it, a pair of red or blue satin pumps would be stunning.

We absolutely adore this Kisa Embroidery Dress by Marc Jacobs.  The classic black color, boxy shape and sleeves make it conservative enough to be appropriate for work, but the embellishment and the surprise sheer back make it fun and appropriately glamorous.  Wear this dress with black nylons and a black or oxblood t-strap, platform pump.  For a similar look that is half the price, check out this Farrah dress by Ella Moss.

The detail on this Lace Topography Dress available at Anthropologie is gorgeous.  And, gold + black is a classic holiday combination.  Complete the look with a red lip, black, opaque tights and booties.

If you prefer some color and pattern, check out this lace sheath from Banana Republic in “saucy red.”  Or, this Pim + Larkin striped Metallic shift dress would be ideal for a more casual party when paired with black tights and booties.

Have you already found the perfect party dress for your office celebration?  If so, tell us what and where!

Happy Holidays,
